The most northern province of South Africa is Limpopo named after the Limpopo River and this province borders Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana. This area used to be part of the Transvaal province. When touring in this area travel along the Great North Road from Pretoria and follow the route taken by the Voortrekkers with their Ox-wagons. Today, of course, the roads are modern and fast and every amenity is available along the way.
Travelling this route will take you to Warmbaths, now called Bela Bela (a Tswana word meaning boiling boiling) where the hot mineral springs are known worldwide for their health and healing properties. The water is warm and many generations have been coming to Warmbaths to invigorate themselves with the revitalising warm mineral water containing sodium chloride and calcium carbonate as well as other salts. The spas and resorts in the area offer visitors a wide choice of treatments including hydrotherapy, mud baths and massages.
Thousands of tourists visit Bela Bela to partake of the healing waters and apart from the Spas and resorts there are a variety of B&B’s, Lodges, Guest Houses and self catering accommodation. Accommodation is also available at the many game reserves in and around Bela Bela in the Waterberg area which is a Unesco World Heritage Biosphere site. There are many game viewing areas such as: Kwalatata Wilderness, Mabalingwe Game Reserve, Entabeni Game Reserve, Mabula Game reserve and others.
For tourists visiting the area who are more sports minded there are the signature Golf Courses of Gary Player and Ernie Els which are of international repute. If Golf is not on your agenda and you have had your fill of viewing the Big 5 at the various Game reserves in the area you could indulge in Hot Air Ballooning. Hiking or maybe Gliding if so inclined. Water slides and water skiing are also available. Warmbaths in South Africa is a wonderful destination while travelling through the Northern part of the Country.
