Along the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga (Eastern Transvaal), South Africa, lies the enchanting little town of White River. The town itself was started after the Anglo-Boer War when settlers established a farming community that has remained practically the same to this day. Tropical fruit, vegetables, flowers are some of the products farmed in the area.
This small farming village has become popular with holidaymakers due to its proximity to the Kruger National Park and the many delights and activities available along the Panorama Route with its magnificent scenery and the three irrigation dams and forests nearby.
The climate in the area is regarded as being the best in South Africa. The summer is hot but tempered by the summer rainfall, and the winter is pleasant with cool nights.
As well as being a good stopover when visiting the Kruger National Park, there are many other interesting places to go and sights to see. In March, the Mpumalanga wine show takes place in White River and is well worth a visit, with more than 250 varieties from the Cape wine lands being offered for tasting.
The White River Motor Museum, situated at the Casterbridge Centre just outside White River, has become one of the fastest-growing attractions along the Panorama Route of Mpumalanga, South Africa. This notable exhibition includes more than 80 vehicles, some of which go back to 1911. The Motor Museum is part of the White River Local History Museum and is now attracting many visitors.
